Catania, 47-year-old arrested for robbery and illegal possession of weapons

Carabinieri officers from the Gravina di Catania Company have arrested a 47-year-old local man on suspicion of aggravated robbery, receiving stolen goods, and carrying offensive objects without authorization. This precautionary measure allows the suspect to be detained before he can escape justice, while maintaining the presumption of innocence until a final sentence is reached.

Modus operandi and dynamics of the robberies

Investigations by the Operations Unit have allowed them to reconstruct a presumed sequence of four robberies committed between May 15th and 17th, all involving the use of a cutting weapon, the face covered by a helmet, and an escape on the same scooter, which was found to be stolen.

According to reports, the 47-year-old allegedly began by robbing a supermarket in San Gregorio di Catania, stealing the proceeds. The following day, he allegedly robbed a gas station in the same area. On the morning of May 17th, within just 40 minutes, he attempted a robbery at a supermarket in Aci Catena, which failed due to customer reaction. He then repeated the robbery at another store in Aci Sant'Antonio.

Investigative and interception activities

The Carabinieri's investigative work was crucial. Through analysis of video surveillance systems, interviews with the victims, and field investigations, they developed a serious and consistent body of evidence. The suspect was intercepted while riding the motorcycle used in the robberies, whose bodywork had been altered to hinder the search.

During the search, officers found a switchblade and clothing consistent with those worn during the robberies. The man was then taken to the Catania Piazza Lanza prison, where he is being held by the judicial authorities.
