Catania, 47-year-old arrested while attempting to throw drugs out window
Joint Carabinieri and State Police operation in Catania: marijuana, hashish, crack, and cocaine seized from a home in the Librino neighborhood.
A 47-year-old man living in the Librino neighborhood was arrested during a joint operation between Carabinieri officers from the Fontanarossa Operations Unit and officers from the Librino Police Station, as part of efforts to combat drug trafficking. The operation began in the evening following information gathered by officers regarding the alleged presence of drugs inside an apartment on Via del Maggiolino, considered a potential drug dealing site.
Attempting to get rid of drugs
Upon arriving at the scene, investigators identified the man, who immediately showed signs of agitation and impatience. Upon entering the home, the 47-year-old attempted to evade detection by grabbing a bag from a cupboard and heading to the porch to throw it out the window. However, the officers immediately stopped this attempt, recovering the items and proceeding to a complete search of the property.
Seizure of substances and material for drug dealing
Inside the bag and in various locations throughout the apartment, nearly 200 grams of marijuana, divided into multiple packages, were found, as well as a 97-gram block of hashish, two rocks of crack cocaine totaling nearly 19 grams, and 2,35 grams of cocaine. The officers also seized two scales, packaging materials, and a notebook with notes and calculations related to drug dealing. Drug tests confirmed the nature of the seized substances.
Arrest and precautionary measure
Based on the evidence gathered, the man was arrested for possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking, without prejudice to the principle of presumption of innocence until convicted. By order of the Judicial Authority, the 47-year-old was placed under house arrest with an electronic bracelet.
