Piedimonte Etneo, Carabinieri evening checks: two drug-related reports and fines totaling €12.792.
Piedimonte Etneo: Carabinieri conduct drug checks, house arrests, and traffic violations.
Evening checks between the center and the outskirts
The evening operations conducted by the Carabinieri of the Randazzo Company in Piedimonte Etneo are part of the Provincial Command's plan to intensify preventive services. Among other objectives, the service was aimed at combating drug dealing among young people and enforcing traffic regulations. On this occasion, the Carabinieri of the local station, supported by their colleagues from the CIO of the 12th "Sicilia" Regiment and the Mobile Radio Unit of the Randazzo Company, focused their attention on the city center and immediate suburbs.
Checks on house arrests
In areas deemed to be of greatest operational interest, Carabinieri crews set up several checkpoints along major roads and at high-traffic locations. The operation included personal and vehicle searches to combat drug use and trafficking. At the same time, officers verified the legal presence at their homes of eight individuals under house arrest.
The parked car and the doses of cocaine
During the operation, the Carabinieri reported a 29-year-old local man and a 47-year-old man from Mascali for possession of narcotics with intent to distribute. Specifically, while driving along Via Castagne, the officers noticed a small car parked at the edge of the road with two men inside and decided to carry out a check. After identification, searches were conducted on the person and inside the vehicle, where several doses of cocaine and €350 in cash were recovered, hidden in the glove compartment.
Material for packaging drugs
The investigation then continued at the two men's homes. During the house searches, the Carabinieri found equipment for weighing and packaging drugs. The cocaine, cash, and other materials found were seized, while the 29-year-old and 47-year-old men were reported to the judicial authorities.
Checks on the Highway Code
The final part of the service focused on compliance with the Highway Code, with targeted checks to combat undisciplined driving behavior that could pose a risk to public safety and all road users. The devices deployed allowed 32 vehicles to be stopped and 46 drivers and motorcyclists to be identified. Of these, 8 were found to be in violation of the Highway Code.
Fines for over 12 thousand euros
The Carabinieri issued eight fines for various violations, including lack of insurance, driving without a valid license, unauthorized use of a vehicle subject to administrative seizure, failure to have it serviced, failure to wear a seat belt, and reckless driving. The total fines amounted to €12.792.
