MilanoThe Children's Festival returns to the Sforza Castle with free events and workshops.

Milano is preparing to welcome the fourth edition of the Festival of Girls and Children, scheduled for today and tomorrow, on the occasion of the Children's Rights WeekThe city will become a large educational and cultural space dedicated to children, with initiatives spread across museums, cultural institutions, libraries, associations, and public spaces. The goal is to offer children and families free opportunities for discovery, participation, and sharing, strengthening the role of culture as a tool for growth and inclusion.

At the centre is the right of children to be heard

The theme chosen for the 2026 edition recalls Article 12 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, which recognizes every child and adolescent's right to freely express their opinion and be heard. The Festival therefore aims to enhance the voices of young people by promoting activities designed to foster participation, dialogue, and equal opportunities. Special attention will also be paid to communities experiencing greater educational needs, with the aim of making the cultural offering accessible and truly inclusive.

The Sforza Castle, the heart of the event

Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th May, from 10am to 18.30pm, the Castello Sforzesco will be the Festival's main hub. A wide-ranging program of free-admission events will take place within and outside the monumental complex, especially for children aged 3 to 12. The Castle will thus become a place of play, learning, and discovery, where the history and heritage of the museum will be recounted through engaging experiences suitable for different age groups.

Workshops, performances and itineraries to discover culture through play

The program at the Sforza Castle will feature themed workshops dedicated to the history and museums of the complex, with activities on ceramics, tapestries, ancient games, and historical fencing. The workshops will be complemented by ongoing activities, live performances, animated readings, storytelling, science shows, and itinerant activities such as treasure hunts. The Festival's structure aims to combine education and entertainment, offering children the opportunity to explore culture through play, curiosity, and hands-on experience.

Free museums for children and their caregivers

During the Festival, the Sforza Castle will provide free museum admission for children and their caregivers who participate in the scheduled activities. This choice confirms the desire to make the cultural experience more accessible to families, breaking down financial barriers and encouraging broad participation. All scheduled activities will be free and supported by Coop Lombardy e Monte Bank.

Sacchi: "A special event to give a voice to the little ones."

The Councilor for Culture Tommaso Sacchi he underlined the value of the Festival as a consolidated event for Milano. “The Festival of Girls and Boys is now a special event for Milano", he declared, emphasizing how the three days are designed to give space, a listening ear, and a voice to the youngest. Sacchi also reiterated that focusing on the right of children and adolescents to be heard means recognizing culture's fundamental role in their growth, inclusion, and participation in civic life.

A program spread across museums, libraries and public spaces

The Festival will not be limited to the Sforza Castle, but will also involve civic museums, libraries, and public spaces in the city with workshops, guided tours, and performances. The event will also include: BAM Circus, organized by the Biblioteca degli Alberi, with three days of shows and entertainment for adults and children.
