From April 13th to 19th, Milano hosts the tenth edition of Milano Art Week, an event celebrating contemporary art, is one of the most significant events in Europe. With over 490 events organized by 260 different entities, Milano becomes the beating heart of international contemporary art. Coordinated by the Arte Totale ETS association, which unites ArtsFor_, Artshell, and MAC Milano Art Community, the initiative is made possible thanks to the main sponsor Banca Generali. Art in dialogue with the city: new perspectives and special projects
The program of the Milano Art Week features a wide range of events, with a particular focus on exhibitions and openings in the city's museums. Among this year's new features is "Ghost Track," a project born from the collaboration between the Civic Museums of the Municipality of Milano and MAC – Milano Art Community. "Ghost Track" unfolds through a series of interventions by contemporary artists in dialogue with the permanent collections of the Civic Museums, offering a new level of interpretation of historical heritage. The participating artists, including Thomas Jeppe, Markus Schinwald, and Maurizio Cattelan, intervene in the collections of the Museo del Risorgimento, the Civic Archaeological Museum, and the Sforza Castle Museums, bringing a new visual vision alongside the historic works.
Art Night and other immersive experiences in the city
An eagerly awaited moment of this week of culture will certainly be Art Night, scheduled for Saturday, April 18th. On this occasion, many museums and cultural spaces in the city will extend their opening hours until 22:30 PM, allowing the public to experience Milano from a new perspective. Must-see venues include the Palazzo Reale, which hosts exhibitions by Kiefer, Mapplethorpe, and Metafisica/Metafisiche, and the PAC, where Marco Fusinato will present an interactive performance. The Sforza Castle and the MUDEC will also be transformed into living spaces, with installations and performances that invite visitors to explore art in new forms. Art Night is not just an event, but an opportunity to experience the city in an engaging and immersive way, experiencing the dialogue between art and urban space.
The role of Milanese foundations and galleries: an increasingly rich cultural fabric
La Milano Art Week 2026 would not be complete without the active participation of the city's galleries and private foundations. Foundations such as Prada and Pirelli HangarBicocca are presenting new exhibitions, including a project by Cao Fei and a piece by Mona Hatoum, while the PAC will host a performance by Benni Bosetto. In parallel, Milanese galleries such as Kaufmann Repetto and Gió Marconi are presenting solo exhibitions by leading contemporary artists. The exhibitions range from painting and sculpture, including installation and performance, reflecting the diversity of artistic practices currently underway. Milano, art becomes a widespread experience, moving away from traditional venues to connect with the public in a more personal and engaging way.
The miart fair and the debut of Paris Internationale Milano
On the occasion of Milano Art Week returns with miart, the international modern and contemporary art fair, celebrating its thirtieth edition this year. The fair's theme, inspired by the language of jazz and titled "New Directions: miart, but different," offers a program that emphasizes dialogue, listening, and improvisation, just like music. Alongside miart, Paris Internationale makes its debut. Milano, the Milanese version of the independent platform founded in Paris, which leads to Milano a selection of galleries and artists who represent the future of the global art scene. Milano, therefore, not only as an exhibition center, but also as a point of reference for the global artistic market and research.
A collective experience of art, music, and culture
Milano Art Week is also an opportunity for encounter and reflection. Special events, including performances, meetings, and talks, intertwine with the city's beauties, creating a collective and participatory cultural dimension. Performances like Marco Fusinato's at the PAC and the musical "Mototrombe!" through the city streets are just some of the moments that enliven the Milano Art Week. Opportunities for discussion abound, such as the talk "Alchemy between Science and Art," in which Anselm Kiefer will meet science historian Natacha Fabbri.
