Pozzuoli: A 52-year-old man arrested after burning brushwood and starting a 7-hectare fire.

A large-scale fire has destroyed approximately 70 square meters of vegetation in the Licola area , a hamlet of Pozzuoli , in the area surrounding the former NATO base. According to initial investigations, the blaze was started by a 52-year-old man, already known to law enforcement, who attempted to burn some brushwood and dry leaves, then lost control of the flames. The fire spread across approximately 7 hectares of Mediterranean scrub and vegetation , an area equivalent to about 10 football fields.

The Carabinieri have identified the alleged perpetrator

The Carabinieri of the Licola station intervened , immediately launching an investigation after the large fire broke out on Via delle Colmate. The officers were able to identify the alleged perpetrator and tracked him down in front of his home, located not far from the area affected by the blaze. During the intervention, the man reportedly spontaneously handed over a lighter and an empty bottle of ethyl alcohol, items acquired by investigators.

Fire out of control after attempting to burn brushwood

According to initial investigations, the 52-year-old man started the fire to clear some brush. However, the flames quickly spread, engulfing a large green area and destroying several hectares of vegetation. The fire required significant effort to extinguish, and during the extinguishing operations, some homes in the area were temporarily evacuated for safety reasons.

Arrested and placed under house arrest
