Rome: 23 Egyptian citizens expelled and repatriated on a charter flight from Italy to Cairo.

Twenty-three Egyptian citizens were expelled from Italy and repatriated to Egypt as part of a joint operation conducted within the European framework and coordinated by the Frontex Agency . The repatriation took place via a charter flight to Cairo , organized by Italy and specifically designed for the transfer of foreigners subject to expulsion orders.

The flight departed from Malpensa with a stopover in Fiumicino

The charter took off fromairport Milano Malpensa, where they were embarked 19 Egyptian citizens: of these, 17 were held at the Repatriation Detention Centre (CPR) in Milano Corelli, while two others came from the Lodi Police HeadquartersThe aircraft subsequently made a stopover at the Roman airport of Fiumicino, necessary to complete the boarding operations of other foreigners coming from the CPRs of Bari-Palese, Trapani-Milo and Pian del Lago-CaltanissettaThe expelled persons were accompanied by specialized personnel in charge of repatriation procedures.

Among the repatriated people there are also people with criminal records

According to the authorities, the repatriated foreigners presented police bias and criminal records for crimes against the person and against property. Among the reported cases is also an Egyptian citizen sentenced by Court of Milano under penalty of 5 years in prison for the attempted murder of another foreign citizen.

Collaboration between Italy and Egypt

The operation was made possible thanks to the collaboration between Italy and the Arab Republic of Egypt , based on a migration agreement that provides for the readmission of Egyptian citizens who have entered Italy illegally. The agreement also allows the use of charter flights to streamline repatriation procedures and establishes that checks to identify those to be readmitted can also be carried out on Egyptian soil.

In 2026, 340 repatriations to Egypt will already take place on charter flights.

Today's operation brings the number of charter flights organized by Italy to Egypt in 2026 to 14 , for a total of 340 Egyptian citizens repatriated . In 2025 , 18 repatriation operations were carried out via charter flights , resulting in the removal of a total of 454 Egyptian citizens . This activity is part of initiatives to combat irregular immigration and manage repatriations through cooperation between national authorities, European organizations, and countries of origin.
