Vercelli attempts an extreme act: police intervention is decisive in saving his life.
Vercelli: A young man was rescued by police after being alerted to 112. The intervention on Via Trino proved decisive.
Reporting to 112
On Saturday afternoon, a young man who was about to commit an unconservative act was saved by police officers from the Flying Squad. During the evening shift, the Operations Room received a report to the emergency number 112 from a young man, who reported that his brother, after an argument, had expressed the desire to commit an extreme act. The operator, acting with firmness and empathy, managed to calm the caller and obtain essential information for the intervention.
The young man was found in Via Trino
The boy provided a physical description, the clothing he was wearing, and the information that his brother had indicated he was intending to reach a ring road overpass. The information was quickly passed on to the patrol car crews on duty in the area. A few minutes later, the officers located the young man in the area of Via Trino, heading towards the Larizzate roundabout. The officers drove alongside the boy, who was standing at the edge of the road, attempting to cautiously approach him and engage in conversation to persuade him to desist.
The sudden gesture
The young man, very shaken, initially showed no apparent reaction and appeared almost apathetic to the officers' words. The officers continued to keep him under close observation, positioning themselves on either side of him to intervene in case of any sudden movements. A few moments later, the boy turned his attention to passing cars and, noticing a vehicle approaching at high speed, suddenly moved toward the center of the road.
The agent's intervention
Assessing the imminent danger, including for the safety of motorists, one of the patrol officers personally exposed himself to the risk, managing to stop the young man with a control maneuver, dragging him to the edge of the road, and lowering him to the ground in the green area beyond the shoulder. After securing the young man, the officers continued to talk to him while waiting for medical assistance, attempting to calm him down and understand the reasons for his actions.
Transport to S. Andrea
With the assistance of emergency medical personnel, the boy was transported to Sant'Andrea Hospital and placed in the psychiatric ward. Shortly thereafter, a patrol from the Carabinieri of Vercelli arrived, from which the officers learned that other patrols had already responded that afternoon because the young man had attempted suicide twice and, after the second episode, had left the local hospital. The prompt intervention allowed a complex situation to be managed without consequences for the safety of the boy or the numerous others who could have been involved.
