Andria and Cerignola: Bunker dismantled for marijuana cultivation, five arrests by State Police

The State Police of the province of Barletta-Andria-Trani (BAT), with the support of the Investigative Section of the Bari Central Operations Service and the Crime Prevention Unit, arrested five individuals (four men and one woman) red-handed for producing marijuana-type narcotics. The operation took place on May 20 in the countryside of Cerignola (FG), where officers located a sophisticated underground facility used for indoor cultivation of narcotics.

Secret access and high-tech facilities

The bunker, hidden beneath a concrete boulder operated like a remote-controlled elevator and disguised as a chicken coop, extended approximately four meters underground. Inside, there were lighting, irrigation, drying, and an external video surveillance system, all aimed at production and crop protection.

Seizure of drugs and materials

Officers found and seized approximately 65 kg of marijuana, including processed inflorescences and bushes ready for processing, along with all the materials used for illicit production. The premises and the entire facility have been seized for judicial purposes.

Arrests and judicial provisions

The five individuals were caught inside the bunker and arrested in flagrante delicto, held jointly responsible for the production of narcotics, aggravated by the large quantity. By order of the Foggia Public Prosecutor's Office, the suspects were transferred to the prisons of Foggia, Trani, and Bari. The preliminary investigations judge of the Foggia Court confirmed the arrests, ordering pre-trial detention for three suspects and house arrest for the other two.
