2026 World Cup, Mbappé: "Deschamps as Italy coach? It would be a shame."

"Deschamps? The best way to pay homage to him is to win, because he loves winning. We'll make sure he has the best World Cup in recent years. I hope it's his last, because I hope he doesn't work for another team." These are the words of French star Kylian Mbappé in an interview with broadcaster M6, who doesn't want to see France coach Didier Deschamps leave.  

"I've seen them talking about Italy and other national teams, but that would be a shame," added the Real Madrid striker just days before France's debut at the 2026 World Cup. He then admitted he was trying to influence Deschamps' future plans: "I'm putting pressure on him. He means a lot to us; several national teams will want him given the work he's done. Let's let the Italians hire an Italian coach. Didier is French; he belongs to us," the 'Bleus' captain concluded with a smile.
