A double earthquake struck Messina today, with magnitudes of 3.7 and 3.3, centered in Oliveri. The tremors were felt as far away as Reggio Calabria.

A double earthquake struck Sicily today, Tuesday, August 18, according to the INGV (National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology) through its official social media channels and website. The first shock, with a magnitude of 3.7, was recorded at 10:07 AM, followed by a second, with a magnitude of 3.3, a few seconds later. Both earthquakes had their epicenters a few kilometers from Oliveri, in the province of Messina, and at a depth of between 9 and 10 kilometers.  

"Following the earthquake felt a short while ago, the Municipal Administration advises residents that there are currently no reports of damage to property or people in the municipal area. The situation is being constantly monitored, and the relevant offices are in contact with the relevant authorities to follow the developments. We urge everyone to remain calm, avoiding alarmism and the spread of unverified news," reads the message posted on social media by the Municipality of Oliveri.  

The earthquake was felt throughout the province: reports came from Milazzo, Castell'Umberto, Portorosa Falcone, Sant'Agata di Militello, Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, and even Campo Calabro, in the province of Reggio Calabria.
