Binaghi appeals: "A Slam semifinal featuring two Italians should be shown clearly."
"I believe that, given a Grand Slam semifinal featuring two Italians, it's important to make every effort possible to allow all fans to follow it on free-to-air TV." This was the appeal from FITP President Angelo Binaghi after Flavio Cobolli's victory over Felix Auger-Aliassime in the Roland Garros quarterfinals. The Roman tennis player, seeded number 10 in Paris, will surely face another Italian in the semifinals, who will emerge from the match between Matteo Berrettini and Matteo Arnaldi. "Italian tennis is experiencing the most important moment in its history and has become a national sporting heritage, capable of engaging millions of people well beyond the usual subscriber base. Our extraordinary young players competing in Paris also represent an educational model for many young people today: for their dedication, spirit of sacrifice, respect for their opponents, work ethic, and ability to convey positive values through sport," added Binaghi.
"This is why we are appealing to Eurosport to make the match available for free-to-air viewing, in accordance with the regulations that the Italian legislature has already established for the future to protect events of particular national interest. This is not a commercial issue, but an opportunity to further support the growth of tennis in our country and allow millions of Italians to share in a potentially historic moment for our sport," concluded the Italian tennis leader.
