Extreme heat, the heat doesn't let up: between today and tomorrow, more cities will be under red weather warnings.

The heat isn't abating today, Tuesday, August 11th, but it's increasing ahead of the Ferragosto holiday. The Ministry of Health's latest heatwave bulletin paints a picture of a challenging start to the week. After yesterday, August 10th, when, according to the new update, 18 cities (Bari, Bologna, Campobasso, Catania, Civitavecchia, Florence, Frosinone, Genoa, Latina, Messina, Naples, Palermo, Perugia, Pescara, Reggio Calabria, Rieti, Rome, and Viterbo) were on the red alert, the situation remains stable for the rest of the week. 

Today, Tuesday 11 August, the number of provincial capitals in red increases to 19 and on Wednesday 12th they go to 20. To the cities already in maximum alert since yesterday (level 3, with possible risks for the health of the general population), Bolzano and Brescia will be added today on the 12th. For today there are also 6 orange dots (alert code 2, with risks for the vulnerable, in Ancona, Brescia, Milano, Trieste, Venice and Verona) and 2 yellow dots (level 1, pre-alert, in Cagliari and Turin). On Wednesday only Ancona is expected to be orange, with the remaining 6 cities in yellow: in addition to Cagliari and Turin, also Milano, Trieste and Venice and Verona.

The heat wave continues, and according to weather forecasts, it will continue at least until next Sunday, August 16th. This August holiday will therefore continue to feature record temperatures nearing 40 degrees Celsius, although there will be afternoon thunderstorms, especially in the northern inland areas and the central Apennines. Then, starting Monday, August 17th, the situation could change, but the models are currently unclear and uncertainty reigns: according to some, the African anticyclone will begin to lose strength, while others say we'll have to wait until the end of the month for cooler temperatures.
