Healthcare, Gemmato relaunches prevention: "Early diagnosis means better treatment."
"Eight hundred and nine free services are provided to citizens, standardizing healthcare provision across all regions." This was explained by Marcello Gemmato, Undersecretary of Health, speaking at the opening day of 'Fism for People – Let's Make Prevention Grow', organized in Cagliari by the Federation of Italian Medical-Scientific Societies.
Among the 800 new services, particular attention is given to rare diseases, with the extension of neonatal screening for SMA and eight other rare diseases, strengthening early diagnosis and Italy's leadership in Europe.
Gemmato also emphasized the role of early diagnosis: "Diagnosing a disease early can mean choosing the right treatment pathways, minimizing the onset of symptoms, and therefore, clearly, providing better care."
