Gino Cecchettin: "Turetta? If she wanted to give meaning to her life, she could talk to men and understand what she couldn't handle."

"I would say this to Filippo: if he truly wanted to contribute to society and perhaps even give meaning to his life after what he's done, he could talk to men and understand what he couldn't handle, talk about his emotions that led him to do what he did, and understand from his words what a man who is abandoned and suffering needs, but must not get to the point of assuming the right to choose another person's life." This is what Gino Cecchettin responded by talking about what he would say to Filippo today.
Turetta, sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his daughter, Giulia Cecchettin, when he was only 23 years old.  

With these words, the man concluded his meeting with Gisèle Pelicot and Raffaella De Santis at the Mantua Literature Festival. The father of the student killed by her ex-boyfriend on the evening of November 11, 2023, who also founded a foundation in memory of his daughter that works to combat gender violence, wrote "Dear Giulia. What I learned from my daughter," explaining why he would like Turetta to explain the reason that led him to kill the girl, after she wanted to end their relationship.  

"It would be the voice coming from an abusive man, and it could be an important tool for scientists and for us in the community to understand why certain phenomena occur and why these behaviors are so volatile, how they change. It could also provide further information on what happens inside a person when they don't have the tools to endure such intense pain," she concluded, referring to the numerous cases of femicide that occurred precisely after the victims decided to end their relationships with their exes.
