Farewell to Peppino di Capri, Renato Zero: "You were a beacon." Their last embrace was a few days ago.

"Dear Peppino, I was able to hug you again, to enjoy your light, your closeness, your tender, captivating smile." Thus begins Renato Zero's dedication to Peppino di Capri, who died today at 86 after a long illness. "You were a beacon," the Roman singer-songwriter wrote, "a safe haven where I could always take refuge. Your soul was so great, so generous towards your audience, your friends, your music."

The bond between Renato Zero and Peppino di Capri has been built on mutual respect and esteem for years, beginning at the dawn of their careers and growing stronger over time through collaborations. "I will always carry you in my heart. You will be present in every thought and note I compose. I know you will not forget me, just as I will not forget you!" Zero writes.

Just two weeks ago, the two met in Capri, when Renato Zero decided to surprise the "Champagne" singer by visiting him at his villa at the top of the island, Villa Castiglione. The moment was shared on social media with a sweet portrait photo: "A special visit today... A dear friend with whom I've shared music and friendship all my life came to visit!" wrote Peppino di Capri, celebrating their friendship.

Renato Zero's letter ends with a special wish: "May heaven welcome you as you deserve. Renato."
