Girl sucked into swimming pool drain, Gaslini: "Conditions remain extremely serious."

The 11-year-old girl who was sucked into a pool drain at the Bagni Segesta beach resort in Sestri Levante remains in critical condition. "The condition of the 11-year-old girl held underwater remains critical. The next update will follow tomorrow morning," the Giannina Gaslini Pediatric Hospital in Genoa told Adnkronos.

The accident occurred yesterday afternoon around 17:118 PM. According to initial reports, the child was in the bathing establishment with her mother when her hair got stuck in the drain pipe, preventing her from resurfacing. Emergency medical services, the Sestri Levante Green Cross, and the Riva Trigoso Red Cross, as well as the Port Authority and the Sestri Levante Carabinieri, responded to the scene.

When rescuers arrived, the girl was already unconscious at the poolside. The owner of the establishment brought her back to the surface and cut her hair, freeing her from the trap. CPR was performed for approximately 45 minutes, after which she was breathing on her own. Shortly thereafter, she was transferred to the emergency helicopter landing site and airlifted to the Giannina Gaslini Children's Hospital in Genoa, where she arrived in critical condition.
