Matera: A truck crashes through barriers and falls from an overpass, killing a 50-year-old driver.

A truck crashed overnight from State Road 7 at km 570, near the Matera Centro exit. Firefighters extricated the driver, a fifty-year-old from Crispiano in the province of Taranto, from the vehicle, but there was nothing they could do for him. Emergency medical services pronounced him dead. 

Rescue operations and securing the area are still ongoing. Traffic along the affected section of the SS7 highway is restricted to one direction only to allow for the vehicle to be removed. Traffic patrols from Matera and Policoro and the Carabinieri are on site, conducting surveys to reconstruct the accident.
