Strikes, September also a hot month: from trains to transport, all the dates

September promises to be another hot month, at least on the strike front. And the most affected sector, with knock-on impacts for passengers, will be transportation, from rail to air, including public transport. The dates to note, in particular, are September 7th and 8th for train passengers and September 30th for those flying. Public transport will also be the subject of a long list of protests spread across Italy, with a particular concentration on the 15th. And among all this, it's also worth keeping in mind the date of the 24-hour national general strike called by CSLE, with the support of FI-SI, for the entire day of September 26th. This could cause disruption across all sectors, from schools to healthcare, from transportation to gas stations to public sector employment. 

Let's proceed in order. Anyone who needs to take the train will have to contend with a 24-hour national strike between September 7th and 8th, specifically from 9:18 PM on the 7th to 9:17 PM on the 8th. This will involve the train and on-board staff of Gruppo FS, Mercitalia Rail, Trenitalia, and Trenitalia Tper Scarl, all of whom are participating in the strike called by the PDM/PDB National Assembly. On the same day, strikes called by SGB, CUB Trasporti, and CAT will also involve freight transport and, more generally, all companies operating in the railway sector.

The strike risks a "tailwind" with potential further disruption due to the 24-hour strike at RFI, between September 10th and 11th. This strike will involve maintenance, administrative, and engineering staff at RFI Doit ut Sud in Verona (from 9:00 PM on September 10th to 8:59 PM on September 11th), called by Orsa Ferrovie and Slm Fast. From the afternoon of September 10th to the afternoon of September 11th, there will also be a national strike by Captrain Italia workers, the rail freight transport company, called by Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl, and Uiltrasporti. 

The worst day for air transport will be September 30th, with a national strike by Techno Sky (the ENAV company responsible for the management and maintenance of the hardware and software for the entire range of systems used to provide flight assistance services) from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and a national strike by ENAV during the same time slot. Both strikes were called by Uiltrasporti. 

Some disruption may also be caused by the strike called by USB Lavoro privato on September 13th, which will involve the staff of Toscana Aeroporti, GH Toscana, and Consulta at the Pisa and Florence airports from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. On the same day, September 13th, security agencies at several airports will strike: Rome Fiumicino, Varese, and Turin. Also on the topic of air transport, it's worth noting that on September 11th, Poste Air Cargo will hold a nationwide strike from midnight to 4:00 a.m., called by Filt Cgil, Anpac, Anp, Fit Cisl, and Uiltrasporti. 

Public Transport. On the local public transport front, there are several dates worth noting. It begins on September 4th with the ATM strike in Genoa, which will affect urban and suburban services from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (CUB Trasporti). On September 5th, it's Venice's turn: a four-hour strike, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., by ATVO workers was jointly proclaimed by Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl, Uilt Uil, and Faisa Cisal. On September 7th, the protest reaches Vicenza (CUB Trasporti), for the entire day in compliance with the guaranteed time slots; on September 10th, it will be the turn of Trento (from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) and Foggia (from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.). On September 14th, public transport will be stopped in Bergamo (Arriva Italia), the protest called by Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl, Uiltrasporti, Faisa Cisal will take place from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. 

September 15th is a dark day for public transport. On that same date, protests will affect Florence (Autolinee Toscana) (from the start of service at 4:15 a.m., from 8:14 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and from 2:29 p.m. to the end of service); Ravenna (Start Romagna) from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.; Naples (Anm) from 12:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. for rail personnel; Prato (Autolinee Toscane) from the start of service at 4:15 a.m., from 8:14 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and from 2:29 p.m. to the end of service; Venice (Atvo) again for the entire day, and Pisa (Autolinee Toscane) from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. On September 22nd, the sector-wide protest will instead concern Umbria (Busitalia Sita Nord), with guaranteed time slots in Perugia and Spoleto from 6:00 to 9:00 and from 12:00 to 15:00, in Terni from 6:30 to 9:30 and from 12:30 to 15:30, and for rail services from 5:45 to 8:45 and from 11:45 to 14:45. 

With the transportation issue now closed, other notable demonstrations in September include the national strike by firefighters on the 12th, called by Uil Fp. The strike will consist of: shift workers on duty at airports, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM; shift workers, working full shifts; and day-to-day operational and technical-administrative staff, working full days. Finally, the Italian Union of Criminal Chambers will hold a national strike from September 23rd to 29th.
