Woman found dead in her Turin home, ex-partner arrested

A 45-year-old man was arrested by the police on serious suspicion of aggravated domestic abuse, as well as the femicide and concealment of the body of his 36-year-old ex-partner committed in Turin on the night between July 9th and 10th. The murder took place in an apartment in the Barriera di Milano where the woman, following the end of their relationship, had moved with her minor son. The man was located this morning at his home in Turin.

The victim's body was found on the evening of July 20th in the apartment where the woman lived, wrapped in a sheet and placed inside the double bed. This was following a tip from a friend of the woman's, who, having not heard from her for about ten days, had gone to the apartment. He entered the house using a set of keys given to him by the owner. Upon sensing a strong odor, he left the apartment and contacted the police, who discovered the 36-year-old's body.

The subsequent autopsy revealed that the woman's cause of death was severe multiple cranial trauma and violent compression of the mouth and neck, consistent with mechanical asphyxiation. Her death was approximately ten days prior to the discovery of her body. The same evening the woman's body was found, her ex-partner, of Polish origin, was found at her home with their minor son.

The man, denying any involvement in the crime, had repeatedly contradicted himself regarding the last moments he had seen the woman. These inconsistencies led the investigators to charge him with murder. In the following days, the Turin Flying Squad reconstructed the victim's last days, up until July 10th, when the woman had had no further contact with anyone or been seen again. The investigation, conducted by interviewing numerous witnesses who knew the victim, analyzing the records of several telephone numbers, and examining recordings from video surveillance systems near the woman's home, led to the man's arrest for the murder of his ex-partner. The motive appears to be the man's refusal to accept the end of their relationship with the woman. As reported by several witnesses who knew the couple, the 45-year-old—who had not accepted the end of the relationship as requested by the woman—had consistently attempted to resist, attempting to maintain constant control over the victim.
