Durigon: "Should we occupy sports? Schlein's demagogy. Forget De Micheli, the Democratic Party president before me."

"It's unfortunate that Schlein says these things. And she forgets that a Democratic Party representative like Paola De Micheli has already held this position, and done well. Such demagogic behavior. It's an appointment I was asked to make, one I make with passion, and I dedicate it to my son, who has always followed this sport." This is how Claudio Durigon, Undersecretary of Labor and Deputy Secretary of the League, responded to Elly Schlein's comments in an interview with Adnkronos director Davide Desario on 'Ponza d'autore', after Durigon's appointment as president of the men's volleyball league.  

“In volleyball,” Durigon continued, “we are world leaders, it’s truly Made in Italy. I thank the club presidents who asked me to do it. I hope to help give this sport its due space, which it already has,” he explained (VIDEO).

"The League is one, not two Leagues. I belong to a party where, objectively, there are many excellent administrators of whom I am proud. I joined for this reason. But there is a journalism that somehow wants to exploit certain situations. I believe that the League, as it has always demonstrated, is one League. And the League can build, in my opinion, a large pool of votes to ensure the center-right wins again," the League's deputy secretary continued. 

Regarding the possibility of Vannacci's return to the center-right, he explains: "They taught me that it takes two to be together. So I married my wife, and she said yes with me, right? So I don't think Vannacci is saying yes, because objectively he's criticizing the government and voting against it. So it's unlikely that this is something to consider at this time. We'll see as things go forward, but I believe that objectively he's riding a wave of anti-government sentiment, which certainly isn't good for those who govern. Because it's true that those in government can have different positions, but with the government, we think about finding solutions."  

Regarding preferences, "the situation was flawed. We lost by just one vote; some were absent, even among the Northern League members, even among the Northern League members who are in government. It's true that they aren't the decisive ones, but objectively I believe that if someone has government commitments, that is a key moment for the government, and therefore one must participate and respect the institution that each of us holds, including by participating in the parliamentary vote. Meloni was right when she said that this is a situation that should give us pause for thought. After that, there's the second round, there's Parliament, there's the Senate, and we can certainly provide answers there too. Let's see. I believe that preferences are something that can benefit an election campaign and can help voters decide who should represent them."
