Sardinia, the "Gates of Sardinia" project is underway: €12 million to redevelop the island's ports and airports.

A welcoming, coordinated, and coherent image of Sardinia, capable of reflecting identity, beauty, and efficiency from the first step on the island.

With these objectives, the Regional Department of Tourism has today launched the project “The Doors of Sardinia” , which involves all the main municipalities home to commercial ports and airports.

During the first operational meeting held in Cagliari, Tourism Councillor Franco Cuccureddu underscored the strategic importance of the initiative: "The place of arrival is the first impact tourists have with our island, but also the last image they take away."

Interventions: decorum, identity and innovation

Among the actions envisaged by the municipal projects, which now need to be defined in detail:

  • Flowerbeds and traffic islands with native flowers and plants , capable of evoking the scents and colors of Sardinia.

  • Smart benches equipped with free Wi-Fi and smartphone charging.

  • Coordinated screens and information systems , for a shared narrative of the island.

  • Urban decor and accessibility improvements.

To ensure coherence and homogeneity between the various interventions, the Department will establish a single project office , which will support the Municipalities in the planning.

A new business card for Sardinia

Councilor Cuccureddu reiterated the initiative's mission: "Ensuring decorum and beauty at our island's gateways means building tourist loyalty and restoring Sardinia to the image it deserves."

The project aims to transform ports and airports into welcoming and distinctive spaces , capable of offering a positive experience both at the beginning and at the end of the journey.
