Summer 2026: "This Evening I'm Driving" kicks off: a national campaign for road safety among young people.
The Italian State Police, the ANIA Foundation, SILB FIPE, SIB FIPE, and FederBalneari Italia are launching "This Evening I'm Driving": free breathalyzers, checks, and rewards to promote designated drivers.
The "This Evening I'm Driving" campaign, promoted by the Italian State Police together with the ANIA Foundation, SILB FIPE, SIB FIPE, and FederBalneari Italia, is launching on the Roman coast and Salento. The goal is to raise awareness among young people in summer entertainment venues and promote the role of designated drivers. Free breathalyzers, non-alcoholic aperitifs, traffic police checks, and rewards for virtuous drivers are planned.
The national road safety campaign “This evening I'm driving” gets underway this weekend, starting from the Roman coast and Salento . The campaign is promoted by the State Police in collaboration with the ANIA Foundation, SILB FIPE, SIB FIPE and FederBalneari Italia.
The initiative will gradually extend across the country , bringing the message of road safety to the symbolic places of the Italian summer and, in particular, to the areas most frequented by young people during the holidays.
Beaches, dance clubs, and beach resorts thus become places where we can talk directly to young people about responsible driving, alcohol consumption, and road accident prevention , with one central message: fun and safety can and must go together.
“I'm driving this evening”: the designated driver is in the centre
The heart of the campaign is the promotion of the figure of the designated driver , that is, the person who, within a group of friends, consciously decides not to drink alcohol during the evening in order to be able to take everyone home safely.
This simple behavior, which the initiative aims to help transform into an increasingly widespread habit, especially among young people, and a true sign of social responsibility.
"This evening I'll drive" therefore focuses on prevention and awareness, seeking to intervene directly in the contexts where young people spend their free time during the summer.
Agreement between the Italian State Police, the ANIA Foundation, and industry associations
The campaign was born from the Memorandum of Understanding signed last July 31st between the Department of Public Safety, the ANIA Foundation , the SILB FIPE – Italian Union of Dance Clubs , the SIB FIPE – Italian Union of Beach Clubs and FederBalneari Italia.
The agreement brings together institutions, the insurance industry, and some of the leading businesses operating in the beach resort and nightlife sectors.
The initiative is based on the belief that road safety is a collective responsibility and that prevention should also involve those who manage and promote the places where summer socializing is most concentrated.
Traffic Police on premises: meetings and informational materials
The project foresees the presence of specialized Traffic Police personnel in the premises participating in the campaign.
The officers will engage in dialogue and awareness-raising sessions with young people, accompanied by the distribution of informational materials and the screening of videos dedicated to safety.
The goal is to address the issue of responsible driving directly, reaching young people right where they have fun.
Within the participating establishments, a non-alcoholic aperitif will also be offered, free of charge by the managers , with the aim of presenting the choice not to consume alcohol as a pleasant and shared experience rather than as a sacrifice.
Free disposable breathalyzers to check your status before driving
Another element of the campaign concerns the free distribution of disposable breathalyzers made available by the ANIA Foundation.
The devices will allow young people to easily and immediately check their status before driving.
The distribution of breathalyzers is part of an awareness-raising campaign carried out in participating establishments and businesses, with the aim of raising awareness of the risks associated with driving after consuming alcohol.
More checks on the roads to tourist destinations
Raising awareness in entertainment venues will be accompanied by enforcement activities on the streets.
The Highway Police will intensify checks on the main routes leading to tourist resorts , through services specifically aimed at combating drunk driving or driving after taking drugs.
The activity will more generally concern all those driving behaviors that can endanger one's life and that of other road users.
However, the campaign does not want to focus exclusively on the repression of dangerous behavior, but also aims to reward and promote responsible behavior.
Free tickets and vouchers for virtuous drivers
For this reason, virtuous drivers will be awarded free tickets for access to the establishments participating in the campaign and vouchers for non-alcoholic drinks , made available by the participating establishments and venues.
A system that aims to transform the responsible choice of the designated driver into a behavior recognized and valued even within the group and in nightlife venues.
The aim is to promote a cultural change in the relationship between entertainment, alcohol consumption and driving , making the choice not to drink when driving a normal and shared behaviour.
15 free safe driving courses are also up for grabs.
Among the planned initiatives are also 15 free safe driving courses.
To access this opportunity, you can register on the ANIA Foundation website and join the “This evening I'll drive” campaign.
Safe driving training thus becomes an additional tool through which to strengthen prevention and promote greater awareness of correct road behavior.
Road safety and young people: prevention in summer locations
With the launch of the Summer 2026 campaign, road safety enters directly into summer social spaces, with a model that combines information, prevention, controls and the promotion of virtuous behaviour.
The stated goal is to speak to young people in a way that is close to their everyday experiences and to build greater awareness of the consequences that can arise from making the wrong choice before getting behind the wheel.
The message accompanying the initiative sums up the spirit of the entire campaign: "Prevention means being present, speaking to young people in their language, and building a new awareness together: the best summer is the one that brings us home."
