Tragedy in Longobardi: Man hit and killed by train
One person died after being hit by a train near the Longobardi station on the Paola-Rosarno line. Rail traffic was suspended for hours, with disruptions also affecting high-speed trains, and investigations are ongoing.
LONGOBARDI (CS) – A tragedy shook the community of Longobardi yesterday morning, July 25 , when a person lost their life after being hit by a train along the Paola-Rosarno railway line , near the station of the municipality in the province of Cosenza.
The alarm was raised in the early hours of the morning. Officers from the Lamezia Terme Railway Police , the Paola Forensic Police , and the coroner responded to the scene , conducting technical investigations and carrying out the necessary tests to reconstruct the exact circumstances of the accident.
Investigations underway into the dynamics of the investment
Following the accident, rail traffic was immediately suspended to allow judicial authorities and law enforcement to carry out all necessary checks.

The victim's identity has not yet been released, and the causes of the tragic incident remain unclear. Investigators are evaluating all possible hypotheses, and at this time, even the possibility of a deliberate act has not been ruled out.
Rail traffic at a standstill and disruptions also for high-speed trains
The inspection and safety operations in the area led to the suspension of rail traffic until around 7 am , with serious consequences for traffic along the Tyrrhenian-Calabrese axis.
Trenitalia has communicated slowdowns, changes to routes and cancellations which have affected numerous regional and long-distance trains, also affecting some high-speed trains and causing inconvenience to travellers.
