Liguria at Fruit Logistica in Berlin: ports, agri-food, and horticulture to conquer new markets.

Liguria returns to the international spotlight at Fruit Logistics di Berlin, one of the world's leading events for the logistics and trade of fresh fruit and vegetables. From Wednesday, February 4th to Friday, February 6th, the event brings together over 2.500 exhibitors from approximately 90 countries, offering a strategic platform for global production, distribution, and transportation.

"Liguria. The Fruitful Hub," a team-building system

Regional participation, coordinated by Liguria International, presents itself with the slogan "Liguria. The Fruitful Hub," a synthesis of an integrated vision that connects infrastructure, businesses, and institutions. Alongside the established presence of the Western and Eastern Ligurian Sea Port System Authority, the Market Management Company with the Genoa Agri-food Center, and the main trade associations, this year also sees the debut of the Ligurian Horticultural District, representing over 3.000 local producers.

Liguria's strategic role in the blue economy

"Institutions and businesses are networking to reaffirm Liguria's central role in the sector," explained Alessio Piana, Regional Councilor for Economic Development, emphasizing that the region is Italy's leading blue economy region and the country's main port hub for container traffic. This leadership position sees international trade fairs, such as the one in Berlin and the upcoming Fruit Attraction in Madrid, as crucial opportunities to tap into new markets and strengthen the competitiveness of the Ligurian economy.

Ports and logistics: the numbers speak for themselves.

The regional snapshot portrays a truly strategic "Ligurian system" in the supply chain of perishable products destined for the Italian and Southern European markets. The Ports of Genoa exceed 100.000 reefer units, while the Port of Vado Ligure handled over 235.000 tons of fresh fruit in 2024. To complete the picture, the Port of La Spezia, which manages 18% of the national share of gateway containers, confirming Liguria's centrality in Mediterranean logistics routes.

The Genoa Agri-food Center as a national hub

The Genoa Fruit and Vegetable Market presents itself to Berlin as one of Italy's leading agri-food logistics centers, operating 24 hours a day. With an average of 1.200 visitors per day and an annual turnover exceeding €250 million, the facility hosts 26 fruit and vegetable wholesalers, 22 logistics companies, and 9 horticultural businesses, for a total of 575 direct workers and over 5.500 in related industries. This productive ecosystem strengthens Liguria's role as a sorting and distribution hub for the entire Southern European basin.

The regional stand also features Spediporto, representing approximately 600 international shipping companies with 12.500 employees; Assagenti, with over 110 companies active in Genoa's shipping sector and more than 2.700 employees; and Confcommercio Genova, which represents the fruit and vegetable wholesalers operating at the Bolzaneto Agri-food Center. This concerted presence reinforces the message of a united Liguria, capable of positioning itself on international markets as a leading logistics and production hub.
