Students Mobility Challenge 2026: Sustainable mobility is growing: schools across the province of Lecco are taking part.

Students Mobility Challenge 2026: Sustainable mobility and schools take center stage in the Lecco area.

Registration is officially open for the fifth edition of the Students Mobility Challenge, the campaign dedicated to sustainable mobility that this year makes a significant leap in scale, extending for the first time to all schools in the province of Lecco. This move reinforces the role of the Lecco area as a widespread laboratory for best environmental practices and the active participation of younger generations.

An educational project that becomes provincial

The Municipality of Lecco has renewed its membership in the project promoted by the Fondazione Bruno Kessler of Trento, in partnership with Legambiente LeccoThe Students Mobility Challenge was created to encourage sustainable travel between home and school and during leisure time, transforming students' daily lives into a tangible, measurable, and shared educational experience. Expanding it to the provincial level recognizes the positive impact achieved in previous editions and significantly expands the pool of potential participants.

Dates, duration and flexible membership options

The competition will take place from February 23rd to May 24th, but a key feature of the 2026 edition is flexibility: new teams will be able to join even after the official start of the challenge. This inclusive approach aims to gradually involve students, teachers, and school staff, without rigid time constraints.

The team challenge between school and free time

The team competition will begin at the end of February, in which students and school staff will compete by tracking their sustainable travel. Cycling, walking, bus, train, and carpooling become tools for play and awareness, translating environmental commitment into points and concrete results for their team. The tracking system allows even small, everyday gestures to be recognized, rewarding consistency and individual responsibility.

App, registration and dedicated staff teams

The registration process remains unchanged from previous editions. Each participant must download the app. Play&Go, available on Google Play and the App Store. A representative will then create the team that will compete in the overall rankings on the platform. In addition to student teams, it will also be possible to register teams for school staff, both from secondary schools and universities, who will receive special prizes.

Awards, special mentions and attention to environmental impact

The 2026 edition introduces a more comprehensive awards system. There will be final prizes for the top five teams, three special mentions for active mobility, participation and consistency, and impact on CO₂ reduction for secondary school and university teams. In addition, five prize draws will be awarded to all student teams that will remain active until the end of the competition, further encouraging continuity.

Weekly challenges and bonuses to climb the leaderboard

Among the most notable new features are weekly team challenges, designed to encourage progressive improvement. Reaching these targets will earn you Eco-Leaves bonuses, which will help you climb the overall rankings. This mechanism transforms competition into a gradual journey to change your mobility habits.

The vision of the municipal administration

«As an administration we are happy to launch this fifth edition which marks an important milestone: the extension of the challenge to the entire provincial territory», underlined the Councillor for the Environment and Mobility of the Municipality of LeccoThe Students Mobility Challenge isn't just a competition, but an open-air educational laboratory where young people become agents of change. Promoting sustainable mobility means investing in people's health and the quality of public spaces. With the new bonuses and weekly challenges, we want to encourage consistency that will transform the use of bicycles or public transportation into a true daily habit.

Support from local businesses in the Lecco area

Numerous local organizations have chosen to support the initiative by providing prizes for the winners. Among these are the Parco Monte Barro Hostel, Football Lecco 1912, the Il Grigio Cooperative, Paso Social Cooperative, FIAB LeccoCycle, Efoil Lecco, Cascina Selvetto, the Pizzeria Al Borgo Antico, STEP FuturAbility District, Legea Lecco, Invitation Theater, the Flying Library and the Deep SpaceA diverse network that demonstrates the strong commitment of Lecco's social and economic fabric to sustainability issues.
