Extraordinary services in the city for summer safety
Messina was the site of a new extraordinary territorial control operation conducted by the Carabinieri of the capital's Mobile Radio Unit and the Messina Centro and Messina Sud Companies . This activity is part of the Carabinieri's plan to strengthen preventive services during the summer season, with the aim of increasing citizens' perception of safety, combating all forms of illegality, and strengthening road traffic controls. Particular attention was paid to driving behavior, especially those who get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol or drugs.
Over 2 kilos of hashish and three guns were found in a plot of land
During one of the checks carried out by the Carabinieri of the Messina Sud Company in the Fontanelle district, the officers located several containers partially hidden by unknown persons on public land. Concealed inside the containers were large quantities of narcotics and material of investigative interest.

The Carabinieri seized over 800 grams of marijuana, more than 2 kilograms of hashish, and approximately 28 grams of cocaine . Three pistols were also found in the same hiding place , one with its serial number removed, as well as nearly 300 rounds of ammunition of various calibers and a gun cleaning kit. All recovered material was seized and will be subjected to technical examination by the Carabinieri of the RIS (Special Operations Unit) in Messina , with the aim of reconstructing the weapons' provenance and identifying any potential culprits.
A 36-year-old man was arrested with over 23 kilos of drugs in his home.
A second major operation was carried out by Carabinieri officers from the Messina Central Company , who arrested a 36-year-old local man red-handed for possession of narcotics with intent to distribute. During a house search, officers found over 15 kilograms of marijuana and 8 kilograms of hashish , as well as materials used to cut and package the substances. The home also contained approximately €1.200 in cash , believed to be the likely proceeds of drug dealing, and an illegal weapon obtained by altering a blank-firing pistol, complete with 50 rounds of ammunition . All the material was seized and will be subjected to further investigation.
Man attacks partner: arrested for mistreatment
During the investigation, an arrest was also made by the Carabinieri of the Mobile Radio Unit , who responded to a report of an argument between a woman and her partner, a 27-year-old. The officers determined that the man had assaulted and beaten his partner, even destroying her cell phone and ransacking the house. Based on the evidence gathered, the 27-year-old was arrested red-handed for the crime of mistreatment against family members and cohabitants.
Reinforced controls throughout the summer
The Messina Provincial Command of the Carabinieri has announced that prevention and surveillance activities will continue throughout the summer season. Services will be concentrated primarily in areas with the highest concentrations of businesses, tourists, and other people, with the aim of ensuring greater safety and combating crime and illegality.
