Pordenone, the Train of Remembrance stops at the station

Traveling exhibition on the memory of the Istrian, Rijeka and Dalmatian communities

On the morning of February 12th the exhibition on the historic train of the “Train of Remembrance”, an initiative of high civic and historical value that crosses Italy with the aim of preserving and passing on the memory of the tragedies that struck the Istrian, Fiume and Dalmatian communities.

The project is part of a broader institutional effort to enhance national memory, offering citizens—and especially younger generations—an opportunity for historical exploration and collective reflection.

A traveling museum of documents and testimonies

The convoy, transformed into traveling multimedia exhibition, houses information panels, period images, original documents and objects from archives and cultural institutions.

The exhibition itinerary was designed to lead visitors through a rigorous and engaging narrative, capable of conveying the historical and human context of the events linked to the exodus and suffering of the populations of the eastern Adriatic in the post-World War II period.

The train's arrival in Pordenone marked a moment of strong civic participation, with a significant presence of students from the city's schools.

Authorities present at the inaugural ceremony

The ceremony was attended by numerous civil and military authorities, including the Minister for Relations with Parliament Luca Ciriani, the Prefect Lastella, the Police Commissioner Colasanto, the commander of the Ariete Armored Brigade General Leotta and the deputy mayor of Pordenone Mara Piccin.

The institutional presence underscored the symbolic value of the initiative, which unites historical memory, national identity, and educational commitment.

Railway safety and dialogue with young people

The role of the State Police of Pordenone, which in addition to ensuring the safety framework for the event – ​​also thanks to the collaboration of FS Security – promoted a moment of discussion with the students present.

The Railway Police officers illustrated to the children the principles of railway safety as part of the project “Train… to be cool”, created in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, University and Research.

Through the recounting of real-life cases, the young people were able to understand the risks present in stations and along the tracks, gaining greater awareness of the importance of responsible behavior both as train users and as frequenters of railway areas in their free time.
