Rimini: Unauthorized drone flying over crowds at Notte Rosa: Pilot reported and fined
In Rimini, police spotted an unauthorized drone flying over the crowd during a Pink Night concert.
Police checks during Pink Night
As part of the administrative checks conducted by the Police Commissioner during the Notte Rosa weekend, the Rimini State Police reported a professional drone pilot to the judicial authorities and issued an administrative fine. The man, on behalf of a company, was supposed to collect video and photographic documentation to document the ongoing celebrations, but was caught by officers using an unauthorized drone during one of the concerts held in Piazzale Fellini.
The drone spotted above the crowd
During one of the two concerts held in Piazzale Fellini, officers from the Administrative Police Division of the Rimini Police Headquarters, also called in by the event organizer, noticed a small drone of unknown origin flying over the crowd. The aircraft was not associated with the event in progress, and its presence immediately raised alarm, especially since, for obvious security reasons, it is strictly prohibited to fly over large gatherings of people, as was the case with the concert in progress.
The pilot was found among the logistics trucks
Officers immediately began searching for the pilot, managing to locate him, with considerable difficulty, hiding in a dark area among the concert logistics trucks parked along Via Colombo. The officers stopped the conduct, which they deemed dangerous, retracted the drone, and began investigations to clarify the incident and the reasons for the overflight over the crowd. The investigation revealed that the man was employed by a company specializing in professional video and photographic recordings for clients, including institutional clients.
Report for illegal overflight and fine
According to the findings, the pilot did not possess a valid license to operate the aircraft, which is mandatory even for small drones when operated professionally. The fact that he was not an amateur, but a professional, further aggravated his conduct, which included flying over crowds, a violation prohibited by Article 1228 of the Navigation Code. For these reasons, the man was reported to the Judicial Authorities for illegal overflight and fined for not having a valid pilot's license. Investigations are currently underway to determine whether the employer and the person who commissioned the images may have further liability.
