Salerno: 25-year-old investigated for terrorism: Neo-fascist propaganda online and weapons manuals seized

A 25-year-old Italian national, resident in the province of Salerno, has been placed under a precautionary measure issued by the Preliminary Investigations Judge at the request of the Salerno Public Prosecutor's Office – Specialized Section for Terrorism Crimes. According to the investigation documents, the man is considered seriously suspected of committing several crimes, including apologia for fascism and National Socialism , propaganda and incitement to racial, ethnic, and religious discrimination, as well as the collection and preservation of material for terrorist purposes.

The investigation was conducted by the Carabinieri Special Operations Group – Anti-Crime Section of Salerno , through online investigative activities. According to investigators' findings, the 25-year-old allegedly promoted and directed several online groups, defined by investigators as "closed," used to disseminate content and ideas based on ethnic, racial, and religious discrimination. The investigation allegedly gathered evidence relating to the dissemination of content linked to ideological extremism.

The possession of material for terrorist purposes was also contested

In addition to the so-called hate crimes, the suspect was also charged with possession of computer equipment for terrorist purposes. During the computer searches, according to the Prosecutor's Office's statement, numerous manuals containing operating instructions for manufacturing firearms, chemical explosives, poisons, and guerrilla warfare techniques were found on the 25-year-old's devices. According to investigators, this conduct was instrumental in the suspect's alleged plan to move abroad to join a foreign neo-fascist movement listed as an international terrorist group.

Mandatory reporting and ban on leaving the country

In light of the circumstantial evidence and assessing the risk of repeating the crimes, the investigating judge ordered the 25-year-old to report to the judicial police daily , along with a travel ban , the confiscation of his passport, and the invalidation of his valid identity card. These measures were adopted with the aim of preventing, according to the judicial authorities, a possible transfer abroad for the purpose of committing the alleged crimes.
