Spotorno: A 15-year-old from Saronno dies after being electrocuted at an amusement park; the area has been cordoned off.
The boy was vacationing in Liguria with a friend when he allegedly received an electric shock while using a punching bag. Resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful, and the mayor ordered the entire amusement park closed.
A 15-year-old boy from Saronno lost his life after being electrocuted at the amusement park in Spotorno, in the province of Savona. The tragedy occurred late on Thursday, July 16, 2026, around 11:00 PM, while the young man was in the amusement park with some acquaintances.
The young man was on holiday in Liguria
The fifteen-year-old was spending a few days on vacation on the Ligurian Riviera with a friend and his parents. The evening at the amusement park was supposed to be a relaxing experience, but it suddenly turned into a tragedy that shocked everyone present and the entire community of Spotorno.
Electric shock while using the game
According to an initial reconstruction, still being examined by investigators, the boy was struck by a violent electric shock while using a punching bag. This is a particular type of strength game in which the target, located at the bottom of the structure, is hit with a kick rather than a punch.
The exact cause of the accident has not yet been determined. Investigators will need to determine the source of the electrical leak and understand why the young man came into contact with the current while riding the ride.
The alarm was raised around 23pm.
The call for assistance was made shortly after 23 p.m. The fifteen-year-old's condition immediately appeared extremely serious, and those present in the area witnessed the initial frantic stages of the rescue effort, as medical personnel attempted to restore his vital functions.
Volunteers from the Spotorno White Cross and the Savona emergency medical service responded to the scene. Rescuers began CPR, which continued for a long time in an attempt to save the boy from the effects of the electric shock.
The transfer to the San Paolo hospital
The young man was subsequently transported to the San Paolo Hospital in Savona with critical condition. His condition appeared critical from the first moment, and paramedics continued resuscitation procedures initiated at the scene for over two hours.
Despite the lengthy efforts of medical staff, there was nothing they could do for the fifteen-year-old. He died within hours of being admitted to the hospital, after paramedics had attempted every possible means to revive him.
The attraction was seized
Spotorno local police immediately began an investigation and seized the ride involved in the tragedy. This measure will allow investigators and any assigned technicians to examine the facility without altering the condition of the area.
The investigations should focus primarily on the ride's power supply system, electrical connections, safety devices, and grounding system. The cables, sockets, and metal parts the boy may have come into contact with will also be checked.
Maintenance checks
The local police will be able to obtain documentation relating to the ride's assembly, testing, and maintenance. These inspections will help determine whether the attraction was properly authorized and whether all required checks were carried out before opening to the public.
Following the death of the fifteen-year-old, Spotorno Mayor Mattia Fiorini issued an emergency ordinance to completely close the amusement park. The suspension therefore affects not only the seized attraction, but the entire amusement park area.
The measure will remain in effect during the investigations necessary to reconstruct the events and verify the safety conditions of all the structures present. The mayor called the closure a necessary step, necessary until more precise information on the causes of the accident is available.
The mayor's condolences to the family
The mayor expressed deep sorrow for what happened and extended the city administration's condolences to the victim's family. "We are saddened, and we extend our condolences to the family. These things must never happen again," said Mattia Fiorini after the tragedy.
The hypothesis of an electrical problem
According to the mayor, the accident may have been caused by a problem with the attraction's power supply. However, this is only an initial hypothesis that will need to be verified through technical inspections and analyses of the seized system.
Among the factors being considered is the thunderstorm that struck the area about an hour before the accident. Investigators will need to assess whether water and humidity may have contributed to a power outage or compromised the functioning of the protection systems.
It's currently unclear whether weather conditions played a role in the tragedy. Investigations will determine whether the discharge was caused by a fault, a system defect, a damaged cable, or another anomaly.
A structure that has been active for many years
Spotorno's amusement park is a historic facility, present in the Ligurian town for at least twenty years and managed by the same operators for some time. During the summer season, it is frequented by numerous families, tourists, and young people spending their holidays on the Savona Riviera.
Officers will be able to interview the ride's operators, the family members of the young man's friend who was on vacation with him, and those present at the time of the accident. The testimonies will be crucial to reconstructing what happened in the seconds before the electric shock.
Waiting for the technical checks
The ride's analyses will determine whether the safety systems were functioning and whether the system was equipped with devices capable of immediately interrupting power in the event of a power outage. It will also be necessary to understand why any protection devices present failed to prevent contact with the current.
The pain between Spotorno and Saronno
The fifteen-year-old's death has caused deep grief in both Spotorno and Saronno, the city where the young man lived. Two communities united by a tragedy that occurred on a summer evening and now await answers to the causes of such a sudden and tragic accident.
Investigations continue to ascertain responsibilities
The investigation will continue with the aim of reconstructing the sequence of events with certainty and identifying any culprits. Only the outcome of the technical and investigative tests will be able to clarify whether the boy's death was avoidable and whether all safety regulations for rides were followed.
