MILAN, July 16, 2026 – Artificial intelligence officially enters the university education of future lawyers. Bocconi University's School of Law has announced a major collaboration program with leading international organizations specializing in Legal AI , with the goal of integrating AI tools into curricula and preparing a new generation of legal professionals capable of using these technologies in an informed, critical, and ethically responsible manner.

The initiative was born through agreements with Harvey , a US company among the world leaders in the development of AI solutions for the legal sector, Legora , a Swedish company specializing in agentic platforms for legal work, and Lexroom , an Italian platform dedicated to national law and the drafting of legal texts.

In recent years, artificial intelligence has begun to profoundly transform the legal profession, impacting the ways in which law is studied, interpreted, applied, and managed in everyday practice.

Aware of this structural change, Bocconi has decided to integrate these tools directly into academic education.

Starting next academic year, students, faculty, and researchers in Law and Global Law will have access to advanced platforms specifically designed for legal work.

The goal is not simply to introduce new technological tools, but to train professionals capable of using them methodically, verifying sources, understanding their limitations, and always keeping human judgment central.

Harvey and Legora: Advanced Tools for Research, Contracts, and Litigation

Thanks to the collaboration with Harvey , the Bocconi academic community will be able to use artificial intelligence agents dedicated to numerous legal activities, including:

• contract analysis;
• regulatory compliance verification;
• support in litigation activities;
• assistance in numerous other operations typical of the legal profession.

Legora will instead provide an agentic operating system designed to assist lawyers in:

• legal research;
• document review;
• drafting of complex deeds and documents;
• management of complex legal issues.

Both platforms represent some of the most advanced solutions available today in the Legal AI sector.

Lexroom Strengthens Training on Italian Law

Alongside its international partners, Bocconi has also involved Lexroom , an Italian platform that will support all activities dedicated to national law.

Lexroom will contribute in particular to:

• legal clinics;
• legal consultancy activities;
• legal drafting workshops in Italian;
• regulatory research based exclusively on verified sources.

The goal is to provide students with reliable tools to address the specificities of the Italian legal system.

For Pietro Sirena , director of the Bocconi School of Law, artificial intelligence represents one of the main transformations that will affect law in the coming years.

Artificial intelligence isn't an afterthought in legal education: it's a structural transformation of the way law will be practiced in the coming years. Our responsibility is to avoid both naive enthusiasm and defensive rejection. We must teach students to use these tools by verifying sources, understanding risks, evaluating the quality of output, and maintaining a solid foundation in the legal method.

According to Sirena, the School of Law intends to become a European laboratory for experimentation and innovation in legal education.

Dirk Hovy: "We need critical skills, not delegation to machines."

Dirk Hovy , Dean for Digital Transformation at Bocconi, also underlines that the inclusion of AI in university courses does not mean replacing human reasoning.

Bringing AI into education doesn't mean teaching students to delegate reasoning to machines. It means exactly the opposite: making them more aware of how these systems work, where they can be useful, where they can go wrong, and which human skills are becoming even more important.

In the legal field, Hovy adds, accuracy, accountability, and verifiability are fundamental elements of the profession, not just technical aspects.

The meeting will bring together representatives from the academic, professional, and technological worlds to address a question that is set to become central in the coming years:

The Challenges of Legal AI: Ethics, Responsibility, and Methodology

The forum will address numerous strategic issues for the future of the legal profession, including:

• the new needs of law firms, corporate legal departments, audit, tax and compliance;
