Taranto, a young man was shot in the Tamburi neighborhood; a 25-year-old was arrested.
Arrested after being injured on Via Verga
The State Police executed an arrest warrant issued by the Taranto Public Prosecutor's Office against a 25-year-old man from Taranto. He is suspected of attempted aggravated murder, illegal possession and carrying of a firearm, and receiving stolen goods. Personnel from the Flying Squad and Mobile Squad responded early Saturday afternoon to Via Verga, in the Tamburi neighborhood, where a young man with serious gunshot wounds had been reported.
The rescued victim and the investigations
Meanwhile, the victim had already been rescued by passersby and taken to the emergency room of the SS. Annunziata hospital. Investigations initiated by the Flying Squad, coordinated by the Taranto Public Prosecutor's Office, gathered evidence leading to the identification of the alleged perpetrator, also a young man. Shortly thereafter, the 25-year-old, a resident of the same neighborhood and with a minor criminal record, seeing himself being pursued by the police's relentless search, showed up at the offices on Via Palatucci accompanied by his parents and his lawyer.
The surrender of the weapon and the prison
At the police station, the young man admitted his guilt and handed over the weapon used in the shooting: a Bruni brand 9mm pistol with a modified, double-stack blank-firing barrel and a fully functional magazine containing seven rounds of the same caliber. The 25-year-old was arrested and taken to the local prison. Investigations are ongoing to determine the motive for the shooting. The victim, shot in the abdomen, underwent surgery and is currently in a critical condition.
