The launch of the new iPhone 18 Pro took place in September 2026, when Apple's new products were announced at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino.
At launch, the price is high (€1.489), but tends to fluctuate over the following months, as has happened in the past. The Idealo portal has conducted an analysis to determine the best time to purchase it.
In the first month, savings are expected to be around 2%; after five months, the price could drop to around €1.240, a 14% saving (€206). In the meantime, the price could experience a slight increase before resuming its downward trend. However, it could reach its temporary low after eleven months, reaching around €1.184. The price would then be approximately 18% lower, equivalent to a saving of €265 compared to the list price.
18 Pro Max: After five months it could cost 14% less
The iPhone 18 Pro Max launches at €1.599, and after two months, savings could reach 9%. After five months, the potential savings could reach around 14%, or €229.
According to idealo's calculations, the iPhone 18 Pro Max could reach its provisional low after nine months, with a price of around €1.288. This would represent a saving of 19%, or €311, compared to the list price.
iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max: What's New
The main new features are the A20 Pro chip, the new 48MP Fusion main camera with variable aperture, a longer-lasting battery, faster wired charging, and an aluminum unibody design with Ceramic Shield 2 on the front. The Super Retina XDR display measures 6,3 inches on iPhone 18 Pro and 6,9 inches on iPhone 18 Pro Max, while the Center Stage front-facing camera increases to 18MP.
iPhone 18 Pro camera: 48MP, variable aperture, and up to 8x optical zoom
The Pro camera system features three 48MP rear sensors: the main Fusion camera with a focal length of 24/48 mm (1x/2x), the 13 mm ultra-wide angle lens (0,5x and macro), and the 100/200 mm telephoto lens (4x/8x), for optical-quality zoom up to 8x. The real novelty is the variable aperture of the main camera, which can switch from ƒ/1.48 to ƒ/1.8, ƒ/2.8, and ƒ/4.0: with the widest aperture, Apple claims an improvement in low-light quality of about 50%, useful for indoor scenes and Night mode, while the narrower apertures increase the depth of field for portraits and videos in Cinema mode.
The Camera app now features professional controls for on-the-fly adjustments to aperture, shutter speed, white balance, and histogram, as well as 3 Photo Styles, which also allow you to customize textures and grain. For video, you can apply Cinema mode effects even after shooting, record smoother slow-motion at 60 fps, and 4K time-lapse videos with Dolby Vision HDR, while the Audio Mix feature lets you isolate not only voices but also musical performances from background noise.
A20 Pro chip, battery, and charging: performance and battery life of the new iPhones
The A20 Pro chip features M-series-inspired packaging, positioning the die close to the memory for improved heat flow, and combined with a next-generation vapor chamber with triple-surface area, delivers up to 40 percent accelerated graphics performance compared to iPhone 17 Pro, with 40 percent faster sustained graphics performance. iPhone 18 Pro Max delivers up to 43 hours of video playback—six more than iPhone 17 Pro Max—and up to 29 hours of use on a single charge. Faster wired charging brings iPhone 18 Pro up to 50 percent charge in about 15 minutes with a compatible power adapter, and iPhone 18 Pro Max delivers up to 7 hours of video playback in just 5 minutes, based on testing conducted by Apple in July 2026 with preproduction software.
iOS 27, Apple Intelligence, Connectivity, and iPhone Duo: What You Need to Know
The new models run iOS 27 and Apple Intelligence, which introduces features like Call Context, new parental controls, and Image Playground; however, Apple specifies that Siri AI will not initially be available in the European Union. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, 5G, and eSIM, as well as satellite-based Emergency SOS and traffic incident detection.
