Teramo: Five attempted scams targeting the elderly were foiled thanks to the victims' prompt response.

Prevention activities against telephone scams targeting the elderly

In the last few hours, five scam attempts targeting elderly people have been reported in the city of Teramo. Fortunately, all were foiled thanks to the victims' quick thinking and forethought. The individuals involved, aged between 70 and 85, recognized the fraudulent methods and immediately alerted the authorities, leaving the perpetrators empty-handed.

The scammers' script

In all cases, the perpetrators posed as Carabinieri or marshals, attempting to deceive their victims with deceptive phone calls. Strategies included false reports of theft, problems with license plates, or requests for money to avoid legal action. In each of the five incidents, the elderly individuals recognized the inconsistencies and hung up the call, immediately notifying their family members or calling 112.

Preventive actions and the role of social networks

Thanks to the Carabinieri's information campaigns at the Teramo Provincial Command, seniors were made aware of the most common methods used by scammers. The safety network created with family members, neighbors, and acquaintances allowed them to intercept scams before they could materialize, confirming the effectiveness of ongoing prevention and information campaigns.

Investigations and constant monitoring

Despite all attempts to identify the callers, the Carabinieri have launched timely investigations to identify them. The combined efforts of prevention and repression remain essential to protect the most vulnerable segments of the population and maintain a high sense of security among citizens. This effort continues with targeted information campaigns and the careful monitoring of suspected cases.
