A serious attack on an armored van belonging to the BTV – Battistolli Security Institute rocked the Brindisi–Lecce state highway 613 this morning, February 9, 2026, around the Tuturano junction. The criminals deployed a well-orchestrated strategy to disrupt traffic: vehicles were parked across the roadway and a heavy vehicle was set on fire, creating a barrier that forced motorists to stop.
Despite the gravity of the situation, the timely intervention of the Carabinieri from the Lecce and Brindisi Provincial Commands secured the area and protected the safety of those present. Law enforcement operated with precision, preventing the situation from escalating further. During the operation, a firefight broke out between the criminals and the Carabinieri patrols, but fortunately, no injuries were reported among the officers, security personnel, or members of the public.
The competent authorities, coordinated by the Judiciary, have launched an in-depth investigation, which is currently yielding concrete results. Following the attack, two alleged perpetrators were arrested. The search for any other accomplices is ongoing. Law enforcement continues to work tirelessly to uncover every aspect of this crime and develop the details necessary to ensure justice is served.
