Trento: The photographic exhibition "I was, I am, I will be" explores breast cancer.

It was inaugurated yesterday at 18 in the Torre Mirana Cellars, at Via Belenzani 3 in Trento, the photographic exhibition “I was, I am, I will be”, an artistic and human project dedicated to the story of breast cancer through images and testimonies.

The exhibition, for the first time in Trentino, was conceived by photojournalist Silvia Amodio and edited by Lucia Di Gruttola, a former cancer patient. The initiative was strongly supported by theLotus Association, which has been involved for years in the promotion of culture of prevention, early diagnosis and support for people facing the disease.

The exhibition will be open until Tuesday 31 March in the spaces of Torre Mirana.

Fifty portraits of fragility, identity, and rebirth

The exhibition offers 50 large format shots, which portray 49 women and a man united by the experience of breast cancer.

Each photograph is accompanied by authentic words and personal testimonies, which tell stories of fragility, identity, fear but also courage and rebirth. The exhibition itinerary unfolds as a visual and narrative story capable of going beyond the illness, restoring dignity and a voice to those who have experienced it.

The project was born from deep listening to the people portrayed and from the desire to transform photography into a space for meeting, reflection and sharing.

A project to promote prevention and awareness

Through the language of photography, “I was, I am, I will be” invites the public to discuss the topic of breast cancer with greater awareness and sensitivity.

The Lotus association has chosen to bring the exhibition to Trento with the aim of strengthen the dialogue on prevention and the importance of early diagnosis, while at the same time creating a collective moment of empathy and recognition for those who have faced the disease.

The exhibition itinerary focuses on the value of time, inner change and the strength of relationships, fundamental elements in the experience of those who are living or have lived the oncology journey.

Silvia Amodio, between photography and social commitment

The author of the project is Silvia Amodio, journalist, photographer and documentary maker who over the course of her career has developed a language capable of combining ethics and aesthetics to tell complex social issues.

Among the works undertaken by the photographer there are projects dedicated to spread of AIDS in South Africa, clerical pedophilia, child labor in Peru, All 'albinism and the malnutrition in Burkina Faso.

His works have been exhibited in Italy, United States, France, England and Holland. Amodio has also published several books, including HumanDog – Feed the Love (2016), and made short films such as Deo gratias (2014). His work is also cited in the volumes “Talking to you, meetings with Italian photographers” e “The 100 and 1 Faces of Italian Photography” by Hermes Mereghetti.

Visiting hours and thanks

The exhibition will remain open to the public until Tuesday, March 31st with the following times: Tuesday to Friday from 15 to 19, Saturday and Sunday from 10 to 13 and from 14 to 19, while The space will be closed on Mondays.

The Lotus Association expressed its special thanks to the women who shared their stories, as well as the partners who supported the initiative: Coop Lombardia, Coop Trentino Südtirol, the Municipality of Trento, Asuit, and the Alimenta Amore Association.
