Lignano: Two women reported for asking for donations for a non-existent center for poor children.
Citizen reports and intervention by the Carabinieri
In Lignano Sabbiadoro , in the province of Udine, the Carabinieri of the local station reported two foreign women of Roma origin, both homeless. They are believed, based on the current investigation and subject to the presumption of innocence pending a final sentence, to be charged with fraud, harassing begging, employing minors in begging, and carrying weapons or objects capable of causing harm . The operation followed numerous reports to the emergency number 112 from residents of Lignano and several foreign tourists, who reported the presence of two women accompanied by a child, begging passers-by for money.
Fundraising for a non-existent association
According to reports collected by the military, the two women allegedly solicited donations, claiming that the funds raised would be used to build an international center for poor children. The requests for money were made primarily in the afternoon and evening hours along the streets of the city center, generating several reports from those approached. After gathering testimonies and reconstructing the methods used to make the requests, the Carabinieri set up targeted operations to identify those responsible.
Stops in Piazza Fontana with flyers and documents
The two women were spotted near Piazza Fontana , while they were trying to obtain a new donation from a tourist in the crowd. Immediately stopped by the police, they were subjected to the required checks. During the search, several materials deemed of investigative interest were found.
Fake certificates and money seized
Inside a document holder, the Carabinieri found allegedly false certificates relating to people with disabilities and the deaf, written in several languages, as well as flyers allegedly referring to the construction of the center for poor children and a list of signatures linked to donations made by unsuspecting passersby. During the operation, they also seized €120 in cash , believed to be related to the fundraising effort, and a multipurpose knife found in the women's possession.
Investigations entrusted to the Carabinieri
The recovered material has been seized while investigations continue to reconstruct the exact scope of the activity and verify any additional information useful for the investigation. This operation is part of the Carabinieri's territorial patrols to combat scams targeting residents and tourists during the summer months.
